“Meet the Maker” Tobacco Pipe Meetup

On Thursday, December 17th starting at 7 PM, our Lemoyne shop hosted an informal pipe meetup with local pipe craftsman Chasing Railways Designs. It was great to take a break from holiday-season madness and relax in good company with fellow lovers of the leaf.

We currently carry a wide selection of hand-made tobacco pipes. Each pipe is one-of-a-kind. DM us for details, or stop in store to see for yourself.

Rocky Patel Event featuring Hamlet Paredes

On Wednesday, November 18th, 2015, Cuban master blender Hamlet Paredes joined us at the Tobacco Company’s flagship store and BYOB cigar lounge in Lemoyne and demonstrated the art of hand rolling cigars.  Even experienced cigar aficionados learned something new from Hamlet Paredes as he rolled the three-part grand culebra and shared tales from the tobacco factory floor.  Mr. Paredes rolled the grand culebra that you see pictured here over the course of the evening, and at the end of the night it was raffled off as a once-in-a-lifetime collectible one lucky winner.

We also had the pleasure of introducing Hamlet Paredes’ cigar, the Tabequero – available in much more smokeable vitolas than a grand culebra, but no less a work of art!
You can see the full event photo album here.

If you missed the event, you missed a wonderful and memorable experience, but you haven’t entirely missed out on your chance to win. You can enter the Rocky Patel  Tabequero Contest: from October 12, 2015 – April 12, 2016; simply purchase any Tabequero cigar and look on the back of the band for the prize-winning marks.

Montecristo Perfect Cut Event

We cut some great deals on Thursday, November 12th, at both our Lemoyne and Harrisburg locations thanks to our patent-pending cigar deal simulcast system — our Altadis representative Tom Stroud traveled across the Susquehanna so you didn’t have to.

Congrats to all the winners of one of our 10 sweepstakes prizes.  Many of you were still relaxing with a cigar at the event when we had our sweepstakes drawings, but for those of you who had to leave early we will contact you by phone with instructions on how to pick up your prize(s).  We’ll be looking forward to seeing you wearing your custom-made shirts from  Book A Tailor, and/or enjoying your premium cigars.

Check out our event photo album here.  If you missed the event-only sweepstakes, you can still enter the Montecristo Perfect Cut sweepstakes to win a bespoke suit.

Veterans Day

On November 11th, 2015 veterans that visited our cigar lounges received a free cigar.   The cigar is free — because we always remember that freedom is not free.  Thank you for your service.

Treat Yourself Day – November 7th

Saturday November 7th 2015 was all about 3 words: Treat. Yo. Self.

Top Shelf MenswearTastealotta Ltd. Purveyor & Taphouse of Oils, Vinegars, and Fine FlavorsCarriage House Boutique, and THE TOBACCO COMPANY Lemoyne featured a line-up of treats representing all of the best things in life, and they were all right at the State Street Plaza in Lemoyne.  A full day of treating yourself right, and you never even needed to move your car.

Rum and Cigar Pairing

Every so often, we send out an email announcing an impromptu event.  When the mood is right we pick a night to pair some excellent premium cigars with some fine adult beverages.  For instance, on Thursday, October 1, 2015  we paired 12-year-aged Zaya rum with a Balmoral Anejo 18 and La Mission L’ Atelier matched with Mount Gay Black Barrel Small Batch at our Swatara Square Harrisburg location.  (Of course, this was just a recommendation. We brought the rum, and folks were more than welcome to pair that with their favorite smokes from our walk-in humidor, or to BYOB their favorite drink.)

Check out the full photo album for the evening here.

We have a great time — and you are very welcome to join us!  Follow us on social media, or sign up for our newsletter (and opt-in to “All Updates”) if you’d like to be alerted to future events.

Drew Estate Cigar Event and Dinner

Unfortunately, Drew Estate co-founder Marvin Samel was ill and was unable to attend our Saturday, September 26th event as planned. He was hoping to rally in time for the dinner, but the virus won. Hey, a man’s gotta know his limitations. We appreciate the super-human effort, and we sure hope you are feeling better, sir.
However, look who DID show up, feeling in fine fettle: Drew. Estate. Premium. Cigars. ‘Nuff said.

We all had a great time with great deals on fantastic cigars. Sorry — we feel just a tinge guilty for partying through your suffering, Marvin! We will have to have another Drew Estate event soon to make it up to him!

Check out the full photo album here.

Pipe and Home Brew Meetup

Our Tobacco Pipe and Home Brewers Meetup was the perfect casual atmosphere for both complete newbies and long-time pipe lovers to relax and discuss the love of the leaf, grain, and grape.

A local pipe craftsman debuted his line Chasing Railways Pipes as well as some of his home-brewed wine. We now carry this line of hand-crafted pipes in our stores, and can put you in direct contact with the maker if you have a special request.

Local brewers were on hand to share their fermented artistry. We especially enjoyed a new brew created especially for the party, the #HumidorWheat,  made with American wheat  smoked over tobacco and Spanish cedar.  Not surprisingly, it paired very well with both cigars and pipes.  What… now you want some too? You can practically taste it?  If you missed the event and are crying your eyes out, you can wipe away your man-tears.  Scotznin Home Brewing can set you up to brew your very own Humidor Wheat right from their home brew heaven on N 5th Street, Lemoyne.

But beer was just the beginning. We had all sorts of home brewing talents shared at the event.  There was home brewed Mama Juana, Pistachio Infused Liquor, Cranberry Liquor, Ginger Cider, Jamaican Ginger Beer, multiple kinds of Mead, Fox Grape wine, Black Raspberry wine, Black Currant wine, and… well the list goes on but my notes start getting sloppy at this point.
And of course, as always, we offer a great selection of pipes and pipe tobacco from The Tobacco Company Harrisburg. Pipe smokers are always welcome in both our Lemoyne and Harrisburg lounges!  Check out our pics from the evening in our photo album here.

The Stogie411 Show

Stogie 411 in the Tobacco Company back lounge

So long, farewell, Auf wiedersehen, good night… after nearly two hundred broadcasts, Mike Williams in New York and Mike Forry in the Tobacco Company lounge in Lemoyne, PA have accomplished what they set out to do and are hanging up their microphones.  Stogie 411 recorded their final “One Last Cigar Show“on Saturday, August 29 2015.

But just because the live shows are over, doesn’t mean you can’t join the fun! Great interviews like this one with Ezra Zion, or this classic with Jose Blanco will live on forever on their YouTube channel.

** Please note: Stogie411 was an independently-produced program. We did not supply the cigars for the show, and in some cases may not even have access to a particular line. If you are interested in a cigar profiled on the show, please check our products page to make sure the line is one of the thousands of open boxes we have in the store before you make a special trip!

Perdomo Cigars Special Craft Celebration

On Thursday, August 6th, 2015 as we launched the new Perdomo Special Craft Series at both our Lemoyne and Harrisburg humidors.  Perdomo has created three lines of cigars specially blended to pair with Pilsner (Connecticut), Amber (Sun Grown), and Stout (Maduro) brews.

This was the perfect event for those of you who love beer nearly as much as you love cigars — but with great deals on the limited edition Perdomo Small Batch Series and free-with-purchase Perdomo bonus cigars, all cigar lovers were toasting-up success.

As you can see from our “Perdomo Tattoo Contest” winner, Central PA loves Perdomo Cigars!

See the Perdomo Party photo album on Facebook here and G+ here.

Cigars Under the Stars

You know summer has truly arrived when it is time to enjoy Cigars Under the Stars on Flinchy’s Train Wreck Deck!  We had a great time all night on July 13th, 2015 and again on August 10th, 2015.

Dawson Flinchbaugh loves Cigars under the Stars!

Bernie Strackhouse and staff were on hand doing a Truvee Wine, Crown Rye, and Buchannon Scotch tasting.   Flinchy’s had great complimentary appetizers and dinner specials,  and of course, we at The Tobacco Company brought a selection of premium cigar specials.  Great evenings with great people!

Oliva Cigar Event

Great times and great deals at our Thursday, June 25th Oliva Cigar Co. “Bi-Coastal” event in the State Street Plaza in Lemoyne and the Swatara Square Shopping Center in Harrisburg.

See more snapshots from the Lemoyne side of the event on Facebook here and G+ here.

Fratello Bianco Pre-Release Tour

On Thursday, June 18th The Tobacco Company  became the first humidor in Pennsylvania to carry the new Fratello Cigars line — the Fratello Bianco.  Our big brother himself – Fratello Cigars founder Omar de Frias – helped christen our new The Tobacco Company Harrisburg location by making us the exclusive Pennsylvania stop on his Fratello Bianco pre-release tour!

We’re over the moon about this new maduro.  (A little NASA pun there. Sorry Mr. de Frias, we couldn’t resist.) This is a tasty, complex cigar is available at our Lemoyne AND Harrisburg locations, and will hit the sweet spot with maduro lovers everywhere.  The Fratello Bianco features a Mexican San Andreas Negro wrapper, a binder from the Dominican Republic and filler consisting of Nicaraguan, Peruvian and Pennsylvania broadleaf tobaccos.

Check out the full event album here (or on G+ here.)

Smoking Jacket Cigars

It’s hard to pull Hendrick Kelner Jr. away from the Kelner Boutique Factory floor, but we managed to steal him for a day to give Central Pennsylvania cigar aficionados a chance to learn about Smoking Jacket Cigars on Friday, May 29, 2015 at BOTH our Harrisburg (at noon) and Lemoyne (at 4 PM) humidors.  It was a real pleasure hearing about all that goes into creating a boutique blend.  All that hard work pays off in a great smoke!

We are one of only 75 cigar shops able to carry the boutique Smoking Jacket line.  Utilizing some of the finest tobaccos in the world, Smoking Jacket was developed to provide connoisseurs with a truly sophisticated cigar smoking experience. The line consists of 4 classic cigar sizes, each with it’s own blend tailored to offer a unique smoking experience .

  • Favoritos – 6” x 46
  • Robusto Imperial – 5” x 52
  • Toro Magno – 7” x 50
  • Short Robusto – 4 ½” x 56

For more quick snaps of the event, check out our album here.

Jose Blanco Blending Seminar

Thanks to all the eager cigar “students” who came out to the new The Tobacco Company Harrisburg lounge on Thursday, May 14th  for learning and fun at our Jose Blanco Blending Seminar.  Click here to see the full photo album for the evening.

The legendary Jose Blanco of Las Cumbres Tabaco – Señorial cigars, former VP of Joya de Nicaragua, and former Sales Director of La Aurora Cigars, led one of his famous blending seminar right here in Central PA at our new shop and lounge in Harrisburg.  Mr. Blanco has been a big supporter of The Tobacco Company from the beginning, so it seems quite appropriate that he should lead our inaugural cigar event at our new second location.  We all learned so much we felt we earned a diploma: so here’s to  Las Cumbres Tabaco – Senorial Cigars Class of 2015!

Seminar participants learned about the process of making cigars, and about the importance of the wrapper to the flavor of a cigar, thanks to a special four-wrapper cigar blended specifically for the seminar.   If only every seminar was this much fun, then we’d all have our PhDs!

For those of you who missed the Seminar, but are curious about what it entails, this excellent blog post at the Cigar Fantasia will fill you in.

Ashton Symmetry Launch Event in Lemoyne, PA

Symmetry, in everyday language, refers to a sense of harmonious and beautiful proportion and balance.  This principle is embodied in the Ashton Symmetry, the first new line under the Ashton front-mark in nearly 8 years. “Ashton Symmetry reveals a beautifully proportioned merger of aged tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Silky Ecuador Habano wrappers unveil an unrivaled harmony of medium to full body, power, and finesse.  Crisp notes of spice and oak flourish early on, and praise an irresistible emergent cream.  Savory nuances of leather and figs segue into a superb finish.  Available in five soft box-pressed sizes, Ashton Symmetry escapes like a great secret and boldly inaugurates the inclusion of Nicaraguan tobacco into the Ashton portfolio.” [Source: Ashton] Central Pennsylvania cigar lovers were among the first to taste the new Asthon Symmetry at our Ashton Symmetry Launch Event on  Thursday, November 6 from 5:00 PM- 9:00 PM. Check out our full photo albums for the event on Facebook or Google+ (don’t worry, you don’t need a Facebook account to view the album.)  Plus, check out our Snapchat @TobaccoCo for the live pics from the event, like this Ashton Snapchat Video. Sindicato Cigars is a young brand backed by years of combined experience from fine tobacconists across America, including The Tobacco Company. One of the most gratifying parts of our job is putting just the right cigar in the hands of a cigar aficionado who will truly appreciate it.  Thanks to all for coming out and enjoying the line with us — along with the great swag (T-shirts, hats, and torch lighters with purchase!) and refreshments. Harrisburg Cigar Club Membership Drive

A photo of Dave smiling is rarer than a clear photo of a Sasquatch The Harrisburg Cigar Club – Harrisburg’s one and only roaming cigar club – hosted  a membership drive at our Hershey location on Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. We offered super cigar specials and swag all day to roll out the welcome wagon.  The HCC made sure pizza and libations flowed as freely as the conversation over fine cigars.  Thanks for bringing the party guys! All of you who missed the event: dry your tears. Yes, you missed out on the fun, but the HCC has a great website where you can sign up right online at  Relive the event itself via our photo album here.  And if you hurry, you can mark your calendars and get a second chance on the great Savings, Swag, and Sindicato deals at our Lemoyne event here. It’s a fun touch — but a little surprising to first-timers!)

** Welcome Willy Herrera and the new Norteño to Central PA! **

On September 25th we had the pleasure  philosophy behind Drew Estate’s Herrera Esteli Cigars straight from Willy Herrera himself at our Lemoyne, PA humidor. The Herrera Esteli is a Cuban-esque cigar, “a medium plus blend that is exceptionally creamy with great balance of spice and sweet.” The newest addition to the Drew Estate Cigars Herrera Esteli line, The Norteño by Willy Herrera, showcases “extensively aged tobaccos from the Estelí and Jalapa growing regions of Nicaragua, coupled with a spicy Honduran binder and a rich, bold Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper.” Thanks for coming out guys. The Norteño is a fantastic smoke, but it’s the people that make the party, and so our thanks go out to all of you for making it happen. Check out the photo album here.
